BBC Wildlife Awards

Still in shick about the news of the winner of wildlife awards being stripped of his prize. Shows the importance of knowing your wildlife subject. Firstly any wildlife expert would realise quickly that wild wolves seldom jump fences, but would rather crawl underneath/through...especially a fence as the one seen in the photo. If the cameraman had followed these creatures for months as he said he did, or claims to, he would know these animals enough to know this. How did the judges not realise this either. Also how did the camera man believe he would get away with it... is the world that ignorant (he thinks)? I'm really dumb founded by this.
Whats worse..I would really like to know who draws their perfect wildlife shot???
In my game one suddenly is really suprised when the moment arises...you eagerly grab the camera...wait for the shot...and then..when it comes up on your screen it amazes and excites even you! Surely all these comments should have rung bells to the audience.
In the end its the camera man that is at fault. You really dissapoint us all. Wildlife photography is an art, alot of har dowkr, luck..and the winners who win these awards are deserving of them for hours and hours spent in the field. Also money earned for wildlife photography is hard earned... nothing is an easy way out. Cheating is like stealing from hard workers. We all want good shots..but if you are a true photographer..then get out there and get your best shot...it may not be a winner to the worlds critiques...but it should be a winner to you...then photography becomes the art it is...the reward it is...and above all..the pleasure it is to be amongst and capturing true wildlife moments.
Yours sincerely, Nicola Schwim, REAL Wildlife Photographer

Thinking of the Old and the new

Well things have changed quite a bit...anyone reading this is gonna get quite a fright as I havnt picked up my camera for a couple of months... I've been to some of the reserves and been looking about...seen some wonderful new things and places..but I have to be truly honest...its my small pocket camera thats been accompanying me lately. Don't ask. Maybe its writers block....the heart wanting to see the world without looking through the lens for a bit.
Dont worry...I'm not throwing the camera away...I promise you that...!
And sure in no time I'll hall out my hard drive and paint my happy memories all over this page again. Life has taken a beautiful and enchanting new course these last few months. Why I even got myself a dog...my travelling companion. He's a cutie pie and I am hoping to get some stunning shots of him..although I know that doesnt count as wildlife.
I'm living in the forest now, on the fringes of Port Elizabeth, near the sea. An great exchange of dust and dry bush for alot of green and endless blue ocean..its divine and cool in the summer...but no I havnt mentioned the wind yet..fortunately thats only on some days...as for the rest...well...I'm loving my new life.
I'll let you in on snippets as we go. Stay posted. Love Nics

Last hour of light...magic!

A Burchells Zebra fades into silhouette with the African sunset. My favourite time of day, and photographs options although time limited, are often at their best!

Welcome to my site.
I am a game ranger from South Africa and have the fortunate oppurtunity to be in many of the right places at the right time. Most of these photographs here were posted in the Addo Elephant National Park, Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. While its called "ELEPHANT" Park and its elephants are indeed its biggest attraction, the park offers a myriad of wildlife creatures which are particularly relaxed with viewers in their vehicles, allowing for magical moments and perfect photograph oppurtunities.

Personally I photograph for fun, although some of my photographs have been used for brochures, and advertising of the various parks and lodges where I have been fortunate to operate from. I love to share them, and looking is for free. But please respect my rights to copyright and do not steal my photos. If you wish to use them for your projects, please feel free to contact me and we can make an arrangement.

Nature is a gift for all of us, to be appreciated and enjoyed!
Let this be the window of my world... sit back...relax..and enjoy a sneaky preview of our beautiful continent!

African skies at dusk..there is something about africa... it is like a language that speaks directly to your soul!

Fork Tailed Drongo. Drongo is suggested to be an australian word which means drunk or crazy. This bird is often seen flying in acrobatics chasing small insects in flight which is where its name was sourced. One often sees the drongo following large mammals, to capitalise on any insects that may disturbed as the animals walk through the grass.
